What is Fax over IP
Fax over IP or, FoIP, is the process of sending and receiving faxes over private or public IP networks.
Just like with Voice over IP (VoIP), software is used to change your fax data to allow it to be sent over the internet.
Traditionally you would use a standard landline over the PSTN (public switched telephone network) to connect to other fax machines. With FoIP you can still make a connection with these fax machines with a few added benefits:
- No long distance charges
- No dedicated phone just for faxing
- Use the internet connection and IP network you’re already using
Telecommunication companies have publicly stated that copper phone lines are going away so when you ask, “What is FoIP?,” we simply say:
FoIP is the future of fax.
